Conference Information

The IOP Nuclear Physics conference 2009 is being held in Birmingham on the 6th - 8th April.


The registration form can be found here. The deadline for "early bird" fees is the 22nd February 2009. The conference desk will open in the Business School atrium from 9.00am on Monday 6th April and will be there for the remainder of the conference.

Conference Fees

All participants:
£240 - registration after 22 February 2009 : £280
£195 - registration after 22 February 2009 : £235

The fee covers the following:
  • Refreshments and Evening Meals (Monday - Wednesday)
  • Conference Dinner
  • Conference Pack
Conference Contributions

Participants are invited to contribute either talks or posters to the conference. It is possible to contribute more than one presentation. This should be indicated, together with title and type of presentation, at the bottom of the registration form. The deadline for abstracts is the 22nd February 2009.

You will be told whether your contribution has been accepted shortly after the deadline. If the number of talks is over subscribed then talk abstracts will be considered for poster presentation instead.

Conference Programme

The preliminary conference programme can be found here. This may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances, however the final programme will be available in the conference pack.

Conference Venue

The conference will be held in the University Business school. The school is based in University House opposite the main entrance to the University campus.

University House was built in 1908 and was originally used as a halls of residence. However, in 2002 it was converted into the Birmingham Business School. In 2005 a new wing was added with state of the art lecture theatres, computer suites and conference rooms. The conference will be held in this new building, with the conference desk situated in the atrium.

The accommodation for the conference will be at Horton Grange, Garth House, Peter Scott House and Lucas House situated on the University conference park, about 10 minutes walk from the Business School. All rooms have en-suite facilities, as well as a TV and telephone. There is a 24 hour reception and free parking.

There are a limited number of double rooms which are available on a first come first served basis.

These costs include an evening meal served in the Horton Grange restaurant on Monday night. If extra nights accommodation are needed please contact Nick Ashwood.

Town Meeting

As with the Liverpool '08 conference, the STFC Town Meeting will take place in conjunction with the conference. This will take place on the afternoon session on Wednesday 8th April. The programme for this meeting will be arranged nearer the time. All participants, including PDRA's and students, are encouraged to attend.

Social Events

A wine reception will be held on Monday 6th April along with the poster session. This will be held in the Barber Institute, which is situated at the main entrance to the campus (opposite the Business School). The Barber Institute holds the University of Birmingham fine arts collections as well as hosting several concerts a year. The conference meal will be held on Tuesday 7th April at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens were designed by J.C. Louden, a leading garden planner of his time, and were first opened in 1832. The gardens are set in 15 acres, which include several "hot-houses", themed gardens and the National Bonsai Collection! A more recent highlight was hosting the G8 leaders meal when the G8 summit was held in Birmingham in 1998. For more information on the Botanical Gardens follow this link.

Wireless Internet

Wireless internet will be available at the conference venue and in the accommodation.
